Thrifty Finds

Thrift shopping is one of my favorite things to do. I grew up going to Savers and Goodwill, not to be trendy, but out of necessity. Even now that I am older I still enjoy going to those stores. I have also grown to have a new love for small local thrift shops and antique booths. The other week I went home to visit family so I had to do a little thrifting with the woman who taught me all I know, my mom.

I usually go shopping with an idea of what I'm looking for, but this time I wasn't looking for anything specific. I do try to keep in mind a few key characteristics that I look for when browsing, which are textures (wicker, wood, or terracotta clay) purpose, and uniqueness. The few things I did find just stuck out to me and fell in line with the features I had in mind.

My first thrifty find was this super cute white ceramic canister with a wooden lid. This gave me total vintage cookie jar vibes but still fit within my style. I huge perk about this find was that the lid still sealed shut, which most of the time old containers like this are too worn out and don't properly seal.

My second thrifty find was this light wicker vase. What I loved about this was the texture the material gives to any space. You could throw a plant in there or even use it as a jewelry catch-all depending on where you plan on placing it.

My final thrifty find was this vintage ceramic milk jug. I loved the color of this and the character it brings to the space. I am imagining using this as a vase, but Nick thinks we should keep our almond milk in there!

The other finds not pictured were for my mom's house. I had found a vintage plate rack to hang on the wall of her kitchen and she even found a vintage plate at our next stop to be showcased on the rack. This completely fits the shabby chic style of her kitchen.

I only had a few finds to share, mostly because I'm actually trying to dwindle down my home decor collection for our future move in July. There were so many other cute things I had to restrain myself from getting like more wicker baskets, milk glass dinnerware (my new obsession), and more. The nice thing about growing your collections over time is that it can grow with your taste and style and you could more than likely end up keeping it longer.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my thrifting finds and got a little peek into my thoughts when shopping. If you are a lover of thrift shopping or as I like to call it "treasure hunting" as much as I am, let me know and I will include more posts like this on my blog.

I always loved to do that also, when I drove a car...Went to the very first Buffalo Exchange, found another place for used clothes and bought at least one famous person's suit and I can't for the life of me remember her name. She's is no longer with us. Hopefully by the time I finish typing this comment I'll remember, but don't expect it..lol I also shopped at many resale shops and antique places mostly on the Eastside of Tucson but some in the Southwest part of town. It is fun and can save SO much moola! I enjoyed this blog..keep it up, kid!
