Have you seen the baking soda paint trend? I have seen it everywhere and I am a little late to try it for myself but I figured I'd document it and share my opinion and tips I learn. I have a set of three mini white vases and a set of three clear vases. My idea is to have them be more cohesive in my space, which this baking soda paint will hopefully help me achieve.
Why baking soda and not just regular paint?? the purpose of adding the baking soda is to add texture to the paint this way it will resemble a similar texture to terracotta depending on the paint and baking soda ratio.
After I did my research I ended up eyeballing the measurements because I wasn't using a whole lot of paint or baking soda to completely cover these vases.
I chose rust orange, off white, and green for my colors. If I were to do this again, which is highly probable, I would use different colors. I was just not as happy with these because of how vibrant they were when they dried. I also think the quality of paint is key; the off-white was a nicer brand of paint I already had and it mixed with the baking soda well and only took two coats. The other colors were 99 cents so they took several coats and the colors did not come through as I had hoped.
Overall I did love the texture that the baking soda paint mixture provided. My painted vases matched my mini white vases much better after this DIY!
I styled the vases in a few different ways to show the versatility of the colors. These are styled as Spring, Summer, and Fall. These are very simple and basic looks that can alter by switching greenery/floral elements.
This is how I left them in our apartment and I love the fresh look it gave those floating shelves!
I hope you enjoyed this DIY! In total it cost me $5, which was the cost of the vases. I had leftover paint and baking soda already in my little craft nook. Next time I will probably get my vases for less from a thrift store or garage sale rather than Target! This is something so easy to do at home and is a great way to freshen up the look of your vases or even add some texture to the space. Thank you so much for reading, I'd love to hear if you tried this yourself and how you liked it!
