8 DIY Baby Nursery Projects

This blog post is way overdue, but between pregnancy fatigue and now the exhaustion that comes with a newborn it's been hard to get stuff done. I did finish the nursery before our baby girl's arrival, I just didn't get the chance to document all the DIY projects I completed. In total there 8 decor projects I will show you and share the steps it took to create the final products.

The baby nursery theme is vintage botanical butterfly with a color scheme of pink, rose, lavender, and peach. I used wood and wicker accents throughout the space to add more texture and character. I love the way it all turned out! I actually like it better than my own room.

My first project were these vintage letter blocks. I looked all over for these and most places wanted $2-$5 a block, but I found these for $5 on Facebook marketplace for the whole alphabet.

STEPS: All I did was paint the blocks that spelled out "Marleigh" with the nursery color scheme. I styled them on her dresser for a sweet personal touch.

My second project was the changing table. We were so blessed to be given both the changing table and crib for free, so I figured I would give it a little extra love to help it fit the theme of the nursery.

STEPS: I first painted the railing on the top tier of the changing table with the nursery color scheme. Then I used a peel and stick wallpaper I got from Amazon (I'll link here) on the rest of the tiers. I got one roll and had enough for a few projects!

My third project was the laundry hamper. I got this wicker basket from a friend that resells on Instagram (@chelseafound) and I knew when I bought it I wanted to change the top part.

STEPS: I unscrewed the top lid and used my leftover peel and stick wallpaper to cover the entire lid.

My fourth project was the crib. I loved that the crib was white because it gave me a blank canvas to work with.

STEPS: Similar to the changing table I painted the railings with the nursery color scheme (and YES I did make sure these paints were safe for the baby).

My fifth project was this wooden play gym. this was a totally unexpected project, but I found a wooden play gym on Facebook marketplace for free! You know I couldn't pass that up!

STEPS: I replaced the wooden teething toys with wooden flowers and butterflies to match the nursery theme. I also found a vintage botanical play mat on Amazon that matched the wallpaper I had previously used.

My sixth project was adding butterfly accents. I had both wooden and plastic butterflies from HobbyLobby.

STEPS: I painted these butterflies with the nursery color scheme and placed them along the walls.

My seventh project was adding floral accents. I had some faux flowers and leftover wallpaper, so I made a floral garland to drape across the curtains. I also made some wall art with the peel and stick wallpaper.

STEPS: I deconstructed some canvases and framed out the wallpaper for the larger ones (5X7) and wrote a scripture on the smaller ones (2X3).

My eighth project was the baby mobile. I had some small shops quote me a custom butterfly mobile, but they were in the hundreds so I figured it was a job for the DIY queen.

STEPS: I used my Cricut to cut out felt butterfly shapes and sewed them together and stuffed them to make them 3-D. Then I hung them with ribbon and twine on a wooden embroidery hoop.

Looking back there was a lot of work that went into this room, but I am so glad I DIY most of it! It saved us a lot of money and it makes the room more sentimental to me. I love the botanical floral wallpaper throughout the room paired with the touches of butterflies across the walls. My baby doesn't even sleep in the nursery yet but I'm hoping when she does she will love it. I hope you enjoyed reading about all the baby nursery projects and liked the mini room tour!
