I thought it would be so cute to have mason jars as the drinking cups/ favors for my wedding since Mason was our last name. However, I thought guests would take those cups home with them and they did not, so by the end of the night we were left with a ton! I figured I could do some crafts with them or re-purpose them to use them up and not have them just sit in my cabinets.
The easiest way to repurpose mason jars is to use them as food storage. Whether you use them for canning, (which actually their original purpose) or storing grains like I do, this is a great function use for them. These are my larger mason jars, but I use then to store pasta noodles, rice, quinoa, or even oats!
The next craft I decided to do with these mason jars was to paint and decorate the outside of them. I decided to paint the mason jars as fruits (watermelon, orange, and pineapple). These will be great for holding utensils or napkins when we get together and grill with friends or go to the beach. Painting them helps reflect more of your own individual style so they can be fun decorations that are functional for storage.
I had some wire twinkly lights just laying around so I added to two of these mason jars and the middle one i just put a battery candle inside. I love the way these capture and reflect the lights against the walls. I am definitely keeping these on our dinning table to create some more ambiance!! I think these would also be great for outdoor patio lighting or on a balcony. You could even hang them too!
Another way to use these mason jars is by making prepared mixes and storing them. I have a cranberry oatmeal cookie mix on left, hot cocoa and crushed peppermint (missing the marshmallows) in the middle, and popcorn on the right. These mixes are great to have on hand to make something quick! They also serve as great gifting options whenever your feeling neighborly or if you know someone who just needs a pick me up! The popcorn or any snack in the mason jar is nice for portion control because trust me I will eat the whole bag if it's put in front of me.
I had many other ideas for these jars, but lacked the resources! Maybe once I am able to get to a store and get supplies I'll do a PART 2. I'd love to hear about what you've done with mason jars or if you try any of these. Let me know If you want to see a part two with more mason jar craft ideas!
